NAPOLEON DONNELL RHODES, is a Spirit-filled man of God who has spent more than forty years as an evangelist and counselor to pastors of almost every Christian denomination. He is a man of letters, having earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Science, a Juris Doctorate in Law and Doctorate of Divinity. He loves the Lord and received Him as his personal savior at the tender age of 12.
Dr. Rhodes has more than twenty-five years of business experience with Fortune 500 companies, working as a Digital Computer Engineer, Computer Programmer, Systems Analyst, System Consultant, and Legal System Consultant. He has also established and successfully operated two computer software development and implementation companies, and was one of the first “Black” officers to serve in the 326th Engineering Battalion of the 101st Airborne Division (honorably discharged in 1962).
With Atlantic Richfield Company’s blessings and financial support, Dr. Rhodes graduated from Western State University College of Law in 1976, completing the four-year course in three and one-half years. But while pursuing his Juris Doctorate Degree, Dr. Rhodes felt led of the Lord to form a “helps ministry” for pastors and ministerial leaders, tithing to them his legal-business-counseling experiences. For this, he adopted the ministry name, “Word Counselors.” The ministry became so successful that branches were established in several states and instead of “Law” he was moved of God to practice “GRACE!”
Dr. Rhodes took leave from his evangelistic work in 1979 to become Administrator and Youth Pastor at Los Angeles Christian Center where he revamped and modernized their administration department and created and established a comprehensive youth program for the church.
In 1989, Dr. Rhodes was called to New Jerusalem Baptist Church as interim pastor. A month after arriving, however, he was encouraged to remain as Senior Pastor.
Dr. Rhodes is a teacher of the Word. His watchwords are “submission” and “tenacity.” He believes that one should stick with whatever God has called them to do regardless of dire circumstances and hardships: “For God is not a man that He should lie nor the son of man that He should repent.”
In 1999, being led of the Lord to rekindle an earlier vision, Dr. Rhodes formed THE CONVENTION OF COVENANTING CHURCHES with the God-given vision of “unifying” the body of Christ, irrespective of denomination, race, gender, social status, or origin. In the fourteen years of its existence, The Convention of Covenanting Churches oversees more than 1100 churches worldwide, with fellowship churches in Africa, Central and South America, Mexico, Philippines, Jamaica, Haiti, and Trinidad –Tobago,
